Easy Automation with LonWorks®

LonWorks® is an open and interoperable system for building automation and is characterized by its flexible topology and cross-system functions.

LonWorks® in Brief:

  • Open system for building automation
  • Flexible topology and cross-system functions
  • Standardized communication
  • Simplified startup using LNS-based network management tools
  • Use a variety of transmission media, e.g., twisted pair cables, power supply system, fiber optic or IP.

LON® Simply Explained

LON® stands for “Local Operating Network” and denotes a fieldbus standard primarily used in building automation. As a standardized technology in accordance with ISO/IEC 14908, LonWorks® is available to all market participants. A distinction is made between sensors, actuators and controllers. Data exchange is event-driven. Due to its high complexity, LonWorks® is suitable for numerous applications in building automation (e.g., access control, HVAC systems, fire alarms, lighting or elevator controls).

LonWorks® in Building Automation

LonWorks® is a distributed automation system in which devices (nodes) communicate via bus using the LonTalk® protocol. The communication protocol can be implemented in any hardware structure and as an open standard, allowing LonWorks® products from different manufacturers to communicate with each other.

The individual nodes have their own intelligence and can execute various programs nearly independently of each other, while providing information to devices in other areas. The result is a flexible overall system with numerous functions for almost any networking options of varying complexity. This is mainly used in building automation. In the integrated system, all tasks are handled by interoperable devices without technology gaps.

Advantages of the LON® Module:

  • Configurable LonMark®-compliant network interface (249 network variables) for flexible applications

  • Compact housing of just 12 mm module width for space-saving installation

  • Free programming and various WAGO-I/O-SYSTEM 750 interfaces provide great application flexibility
  • Save time thanks to easy configuration and streamlined engineering workflow

WAGO and LonWorks®

WAGO's LON® Module quickly and easily connects to the 750 Series Controllers and I/O Modules via LonWorks®. The freely configurable network interface can manage up to 249 variables. WAGO's 753-648 LON® Module independently connects LonWorks® field devices to the WAGO 750 I/O-SYSTEM. Numerous interfaces to the supported protocols (e.g., BACnet IP, KNX IP, DALI or SMI) provide maximum flexibility. In addition, the I/O module's compact housing of just 12 mm permits extreme space savings.
